Business Continuity Management program initiation
I have a clear understanding of the drivers for a successful BCM program and as such will assist your organization to motivate the initiation or potential further investment in a solid BCM capability, if significant gaps exist in the current implementation. I perform gap assessments against the ISO22301 standard and will align or certify your BCM program against the same standard. I also follow the guidance of the ISO22313 standard and adhere closely to the concepts presented in the ISO27001 standard, as I believe these standards do indeed add value if implemented. I am confident to present a strong case for Business Continuity improvements in the organization to the Executive Management committee or even to the Board if necessary.
Understanding of mission critical business processes
I consider the Business Impact Analysis phase to be the most critical phase of the Business Continuity Management program, as a successful BIA lays the foundation for a successful and fit for purpose continuity response. Your organization can profit from my extensive skill and experience which balances depth of analyses and speed of execution. I also bring a deep understanding of IT to the table which bridges a gap which often exists within BCM teams. My IT background ensures that your BCM team can cover the entire organization effectively and reap the benefits of a successful COBIT implementation or ITIL alignment.
Understanding the risks that threaten the key processes
My approach to BCM Risk Assessment gives a focused view of all risks that threaten critical processes directly and indirectly. I complete this phase in quite a short period of time due to the avoidance of analysis paralysis and having clear objectives for developing mitigation strategies for critical processes only followed by prioritized continuous improvement cycles to expand or strengthen mitigation strategies. I also have a firm grasp and clear understanding of differentiating between process specific risks and general risks that may disrupt multiple or all processes and ensure that your business will be protected under all scenarios, including the worst-case scenario identified within your organizations risk appetite.
Relevant strategies to mitigate risks
I have an exceptional understanding of the mitigation strategies that can be solved with IT solutions, but the true professional will also look at strategies that do not only rely on technology, such as improved hard and soft resilience and possible alternate manual procedures. This I also do to ensure that selected solutions meet risk, cost, performance as well as recovery point and time objectives, as identified during the BIA phase. With regards best of breed technical solutions, I have superior knowledge of the IT solutions required to provide high availability, continuous operation, active-active, hot, warm and cold recovery solutions as well as other relevant designs for continuity and recovery.
Business Continuity Management program maintenance
I can lead the BCM team to ensure that appropriate program maintenance takes place, from the initiation of the program and initial awareness training campaigns, to gap assessments and improvement cycles. Well-defined metrics and appropriate reporting mechanisms are also needed to communicate progress to management as well as external parties, such as regulators..
